MEKONG INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND COOPERATION
No.123 University, Muang District
Khon Kaen 40000, Thailand
The project will contribute to development results by way of rapid economic growth in the Mekong countries through enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the CLMVT countries. This will be achieved, in part, through market linkages with the Korean business and integration into regional and global value chains.
The ultimate goal of this project is to support inclusive and more equitable development by supporting the integration of small and medium sized enterprises (SME) into regional and global value chains.
The GMS Business Networks is the first one-stop interactive platform facilitating economic development in the GMS.
It aims to provide a dynamic platform for business development in the Mekong region. It offers match making services for all companies in the region with a particular focus on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

In order to promote private sector investment and exchange, the Republic of Korea and the Mekong countries (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) have established the ‘Mekong–Republic of Korea Business Forum’. The forum was first launched in 2013 in Bangkok, and successive events were held in Hanoi and Phnom Penh in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
The forum is an effective platform to connect Korean companies with businesses based in the Mekong countries. With support from the Republic of Korea, the Mekong Institute launches the ‘Mekong– Republic of Korea Business Forum’ in the Mekong countries to facilitate a more inclusive and broad-based integration of the regional economy. From 2016 to 2021, the Mekong Institute will facilitate the ‘Mekong– Republic of Korea Business Forum’ as an annual event to promote business network and investment among Korea and the Mekong countries.
REALIZING INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE MEKONG REGION
The establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community in December 2015 was an important milestone and has the potential to have a profound effect on regional and global value chains (R & GVC’s) and the ways businesses operate in the Mekong countries.
The Community’s vision of an ASEAN single market and production base presents significant opportunities for economic growth and development in the future, both for the Mekong countries and the Republic of Korea. The Mekong region is comprised of five countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
"Howe International team has been instrumental in implementing this project by developing the ground-breaking GMS Business Networks (GMSBN), a business-to-business opportunity portal, and contributing to the success of the 4th Mekong RoK Business Forum held in Yangon, Myanmar."
